I saw that Jefferson also had problems with patching a filebrowser for Punktal PK-DV246.
There is problem when you try to extend the number of characters in File Browser to more than 23.
I was try many ways to fix that bug, but I'm still without success.
First of all, I need to say that I don't have Punktal PK-DV246 player but I have Yamakashi XXX which is his clone.
They have 100% the same ARM code, and they are very very similar (not so aestheticly).
Yamakshi XXX:

Info:
On the net I found a one more clone of these players, this is Peekton PK6023
(http://www.peekton.com/product_info.php?cPath=30_23&products_id=109).
All these players have 23 characters limit bug.
So, all changes and addresses (from Yamakashi XXX) will be usable for firmware/ARM Code of Punktal PK-DV246.
I was found some useful informations for this problem on mt13x9 group.
It seems that only way to solve this problem is to implement an unicode2CP routine into ARM code.
But problem is to integrate unicode2CP calls into WriteDirName and WriteFileName functions cause they are different on these players (with servo 89.61.10.00) than on most other mediatek based players.
So, we need first to change existing WriteDirName and WriteFileName functions, than to put unicode2CP calls, than to write unicode2CP code on C++ message area (or we can extend ARM code), and than to create a 125x code page.
I was try to solve this problem using some informations from ExSport's ExSport_CP125x.doc document and messages from mt13x9 group.
But, I didn't manage to solve that problem, I was only get hidden file and directory names in file browser.
I put here my changes made in ARM code (additional changes in firmware are necessary, read ExSport_CP125x.doc) and maybe they will be useful for others who wants to help me to fix this. These changes does not work.
I also included in attachments all informations about this problem from mt13x9 group (ExSport_CP125x.doc and replies on http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/mt13x9/message/7424).
I'm ready for cooperation.

I think that you don't need a dummy file for firmware CD upgrading for these players (servo 89.61.10.00).
Did you try to burn MTK.BIN on cd with Nero Burning ROM software with next settings:
