O conector de 6 pinos logo abaixo do chip de RAM é o conector de debug. Esse conector é usado para ter acesso ao “terminal” do linux embutido, usando um conversor RS232-TTL. O principal propósito é poder instalar um novo firmware quando algo der muito errado e o aparelho ficar inoperante. Você pode obter um plug para esse conector (6 pinos, passo de 2mm) em uma grande variedade de DVD players. Ele está presente principalmente na conexão entre a placa CPU e o drive. O Proview DVP-801, por exemplo, tem internamente quatro cabos com plugs compatíveis .
Atenção: você só precisa mesmo dos pinos RX, TX e GND. O +3.3V só é necessário se você precisar alimentar o cabo de comunicação usando a fonte do S9, mas isso só deve ser feito se você souber o que está fazendo. Conectar o +3.3V pela razão errada pode levar à queima do seu S9, do seu cabo, ou da porta de comunicação no seu computador.
Em geral, se você trocar a posição de RX e TX, não tem importância. Basta inverter e testar de novo. Nunca vi uma porta de comunicação queimar por isso.
Você pode usar o Hiperterminal para visualizar o boot. Configure a porta para 115200 8-N-1.

Com o aparelho parado, a mensagem “watchdog test pid 199, threshold: 50” é repetida a cada 2 segundos. O valor de pid pode ser diferente no seu caso, mas sempre se refere ao processo “dvdplayer”. Por exemplo, procurando por 199 na lista de processos rodando você veria:

É possível entrar no modo interativo pressionando ESC logo no início do boot (veja a linha 23 do log). Como forçar a instalação do firmware usando a porta serial.
No prompt do terminal, digite esses comandos:
Realtek> erase -m [ENTER] (o aparelho responderá com “/done”)
Realtek> reset [ENTER]
Isso irá apagar toda a memória do aparelho, exceto bootloader. O que forçará o bootloader a buscar um novo firmware nas portas USB. Basta inserir um pendrive em uma das portas USB (testei em ambas) com o firmware (arquivo install.img) na raiz. Quando o aparelho detectar o firmware, exibirá uma tela mostrando a instalação. Enquanto o firmware não for localizado o aparelho parecerá estar travado exibindo o logo inicial. Mas pela porta serial você poderá ver que ele está em atividade, procurando o firmware.
O conversor TTL-RS232
Se você não sabe como obter um conversor TTL-RS232, leia minha página sobre recuperação de players Mediatek. O cabo usado é exatamente o mesmo. Mas certifique-se de que o cabo usado tem saída de 3.3V, porque apesar dos chips MT13x9 comprovadamente tolerarem saídas de 5V, é melhor não arriscar com o S9. Por exemplo, caso você use este esquema, certifique-se de usar o chip MAX3232:
Assim como no caso dos players MT13x9. a porta serial dos aparelhos Realtek é ligada diretamente ao chip, sem buffers. Se você fizer uma besteira poderá inutilizar a CPU do aparelho.
Por não ser necessário transferir grandes volumes de dados pela serial (para instalar e ler firmware se usa a USB ou o HDD), a conexão serial da Realtek é muito mais fácil de estabelecer. Cabos USB de celular que seriam problemáticos em um projeto MT13x9 devem funcionar perfeitamente em um projeto Realtek.

ola ryan vou te contar o meu problema para ver se vc consegue me ajudar e fiz uma atualização no meu midiacenter e agora ele para na tela de idioma e não funciona mais nenhum botão o modelo dele é cvhq-e94 e não existe firmware para ele tem um amigo com um do mesmo tem como eu copiar o firmware dele para depois eu instalar no meu mais pela porta serial vai demorar muito e não ser se ela faz a copia to do firmware.
Você está com o aparelho travado porque instalou um firmware que precisa de outro controle remoto. Isso pode ser consertado, mas é bastante complicado. A alternativa mais simples requer que exista acesso Telnet ao aparelho e que você entenda o básico de Linux. A mais complicada é inviável economicamente porque requer dessoldar chips nos dois aparelhos. O primeiro método é muito complicado de explicar, ainda mais sem sequer conhecer o aparelho.
Eu posso tentar consertar isso por R$50 mais fretes. Você só paga os R$50 se eu consertar, mas os fretes vai pagar de qualquer maneira.

Não existe comando conhecido para extrair um firmware Realtek RTD10XX. Você pode copiar ele extraindo os diretórios do aparelho que está funcionando, usar esses diretórios para construir um firmware funcional (para isso precisa saber usar várias ferramentas) e depois torcer para que ele seja reconhecido no seu aparelho. Mas não é um procedimento simples e eu mesmo nunca fiz.
Já que retirar os chips TSOP48 dos dois aparelhos e copiar de um pro outro em um gravador de EEPROM para você não é difícil então faça isso.
Foi uma idéia muito ruim testar no seu aparelho um firmware que não era dele, que se tornou péssima por você sequer ter o firmware original disponível para poder reverter.
Não quer vender o seu aparelho para mim como sucata? Sem ter o outro funcionando as chances de conserto são remotas, mas eu preciso de um aparelho que tenha pelo menso o acesso telnet funcionando para servir de cobaia.

Ryan, Atualizei o meu MVIX ULTIO PRO (DX-880HD) com um firmware corrompido. Agora não consigo resetar o padrão de fábrica conforme o que diz no manual e site (www.mvixusa.com). Há a possibilidade de recuperação via esse cabo serial ?
Se o aparelho tiver o mesmo chipset e tiver uma porta serial, provavelmente sim.
Serial ele tem (com seis pinos). O Modelo anterior MX-800HD possui chipset realtek 1073DD. Pelo que pesquisei o MX-880HD também tem o mesmo Realtek1073DD. No manual fala para ligar o aparelho junto com a tecla power apertada, mas não funcionou. Pelo chipset dá para saber qual o procedimento correto para reset ?
Não. O procedimento de reset depende inteiramente da seção “bootloader” do firmware. Ou seja: é definido por quem escreveu o firmware.

Está equivocado. Esse conversor funciona como amplificador de tensão e o método usado para isso requer capacitores ligados dessa maneira.
